How much can you save with Attic Insulation in 2023?

Most houses currently have around 100mm insulation, which is level with the top of the floor joists. SEAI have grants available to upgrade the insulation to 300mm, this upgrade is estimated to save you up to 30% of your energy.

Whilst calculating the savings can become very complex, due to unpredictability in fuel prices. We have a quick and simple way to approximate the savings that you can make.

The first step is to locate approximately 12 months of energy bills for your property, you will need enough bills to cover all seasons of weather. Once you have located these you will be able to add up the units/cost arriving at your energy usage for a year.

For our calculation we use a 3 bedroom semi detached house, on average properties of this size will consume approximately 11,000 kWh. Bringing the yearly energy bill for this property to €1866.
